THERAPY FOR LONG-TERM CHANGE
You know that things need to change. But you’re not sure what exactly needs to change or how. The confusion can be very real because outwardly you seem to be doing well and everyone around you seems sure of that. And yet you feel like there is an ongoing battle inside. Or perhaps you've been holding things together for so long, the stress is starting to show outwardly. Or perhaps you have tried making changes but they have been short-lived. Somewhere deep down you know that there is a better version of you that you can grow into. You just need some help to figure out the issues and how to solve them.
REASONS PEOPLE COME TO SEE ME FOR
Therapy can be for more than just mental illness. People come to me for a wide range of issues – Self-esteem, life crisis, life transition, relationships, decision-making, grief, trauma, child’s behaviour issues, and family issues
REASONS INDIVIDUALS COME TO THERAPY
Mental health issue diagnosed by a doctor or other professional. More commonly, showing symptoms of physical illness but lab reports don’t show any abnormality
Long-term depression and/or anxiety; often taking medicines to manage themselves.
Stress - stress levels impacting quality of life, health, and relationships.
Unhappiness, lack of purpose or fulfilment in life - feelings of worthlessness, not achieving things in life according to potential, giving more than receiving.
Life crisis – job loss, someone’s death, diagnosis of an illness, separation, divorce, losing a child or miscarriage
Life transition – getting married, relocation, child leaving home, changing jobs, becoming a parent, leaving home for first time
Improving relationships – interpersonal issues that affect personal and social relationships; issues that come out in behaviours such as emotional outbursts or “ego” issues.
Decision-making – staying or exiting a relationship, marriage, having a child, starting or stopping IVF, adopting a child.
Grief – death of a loved one, miscarriage/stillbirth, abortion, or a loss that can’t be talked about with anyone.
Trauma – something that they are unable to put behind and move forward; intrusive memories & thoughts that trigger fear, shame, resentment or guilt.
A Second Opinion! Sometimes it is as simple as that.
REASONS PARENTS OR FAMILY MEMBERS COME TO THERAPY
Behavioural issues of a child or teen, either at home or in school.
Child or teen’s anxiety, phobia, obsessive behaviour, self-harm or suicidal behaviour.
Family conflict - conflict between parents or involving extended family members.
Problematic behaviour of a family member e.g. alcohol use or drugs, violence, affairs, gambling, etc. that is impacting the family members' lives.
